We are a welcoming; inclusive community united by our shared values and are seeking a nurse who shares those beliefs. We are in search of a skilled and dynamic full-time nurse to work in our busy upper school (grades 6-12) health center. The health center nurse will oversee the daily clinical operations and provision of care required for the Health Center to serve as an ambulatory care clinic, medication dispensary and infirmary. He/she is required to work both independently and as part of a personable and closely collaborative nursing team.
This is a full-time, 10-month position, beginning August 2022.
The ideal candidate will have a strong clinical background and solid assessment skills. This person must be organized, able to work both independently and on a team, able to multitask, willing to work under busy conditions and able to collaborate and communicate effectively.
Excellent customer service skills are essential. School-based health care experience is preferred; comfort with students from 11 to 18 years old is a must.
Requirements:
Integrates knowledge, skills, and clinical experience to meet the needs of students, their families, and the community
Participates in planning programs that eliminate or minimize health problems of students that may interfere with learning
Participates in identifying and reporting environmental health and safety hazards (current and potential) for students and staff
Maintains and reviews student health records and statistical information regarding the health status of students.
Communicates current health problems, needs, and concerns of students to their parents and appropriate school staff
Maintains a system for providing first aid and emergency care
Administers medicine and treatments to students as approved by school policy and Maryland Nursing Law
Coordinate annual staff flu clinic
Provides individualized patient education
Serves as a clinical resource
Knowledge, Skills, and Physical Requirements:
Degree from accredited school of nursing
Active licensed as a Registered Nurse in Maryland
BLS Certified
Triage experience necessary
Knowledge of current practices for common childhood illnesses and chronic diseases: asthma management, diabetes, seizure management
Experience in school, acute, pediatric and/or community or public health nursing
Strong interpersonal, communication, analytical and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to innovate, problem solve and think critically
Ability to use and adapt to use electronic medical records to support the Health Room; familiarity with Magnus Health a plus
Assist in being a practitioner of diversity, equity and inclusion
Uphold the school's professional standards including punctuality, courtesy and discretion
Work in a fast-paced, stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Possible Covid-19 responsibilities for the school year:
Provide and recommend Covid-19 testing when appropriate for students and staff on campus
Be a member of the Medical Advisory Committee that creates and enforces Covid-19 policies
Manage and communicate with the Montgomery County Health Dept, staff and families about Covid-19 cases
Work Environment:
Faculty may be asked to perform their work responsibilities on campus and/or at home. In both settings, the teacher is required to maintain a professional environment.
While on campus, classes may be operating either in person or in an alternative setting. Teachers are expected to be present and accessible for the entire school day (contracted hours), regardless of the setting.
